Corgi “Scammell Co-Op Set” No 1151
A very rare set indeed, issued in brown card boxes only for a limited period during 1970/1. The set comprised of the models listed below.
- 462 Commer Van in blue and white with three Co-op stickers and cast wheels
- 466 Commer Milk Float in blue and white with three Co-op stickers and cast wheels
- 1151 Scammell Cab and Articulated Trailer, white cab with blue trailer on white chassis, both with Co-op stickers.
After a bit of research to obtain this set you needed to collect coupons with purchases from Co-op stores, then it was only acquired by post. From what I can gather this wasn’t very popular so this makes the set not only hard to find, but rare!
I acquired this set from a person who worked for the Co-Op. He had never removed it from the original box, which is shown in the gallery with PO date stamp May 1971.
All the models are virtually mint having a couple of little chips, but I am sure this is just factory marks. The trailer has a couple of black marks to it, this is were the tyres from the two Commers have never been removed before, although the tyres seem to be OK apart from the 462 Commer Van does have flat spots on the rear ones, also the suspension to the rear has broken one side, due to the box being a tight fit.
This is a lovely set and would be a brilliant addition to any Corgi collection.
